The experience of authority or the authority of experience . If we go only by the first, our faith would be objective but impersonal ; if we follow only the second, our faith would be subjective but personal . What we believe must be in fact outside us ; yet , what we believe must also be inside us in that we have interiorized it . Eyes Opened – Hearts Afire ! integrates both dimensions of our faith . It accepts and acknowledges the objectivity of faith and also deepens and develops that objectivity through the experience of personal encounter . The Christian today is called not merely to practise the faith but even more to interiorize it through the challenge of a personal Jesus encounter and to be touched , torched and transformed by that encounter.
